Hydration Masks

I currently have two masks on rotation and thought I’d share my thoughts about these with you. My skin tends to experience dryness and dehydration quite often, so I love having a good hydration mask on hand and including this in my routine when my skin needs it.

| Review | Clarins SOS Hydra Refreshing Hydration Mask

The first thing that I noticed about this product was the lovely blue creamy consistency of the mask.  It feels soft and gentle on the skin, and the fragrance is subtle and fresh.

The SOS Hydra mask is described by Clarins as an intense moisture replenishing mask.  It is formulated with Leaf of Life extract and Hyaluronic Acid.  Leaf of Life is a succulent that has been found to retain water exceptionally well in extreme temperature settings.  It works to restore the skins natural ability to hold onto water and maintain balanced hydration levels. This fast-acting skin quencher is visibly plumping, restores radiance and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and fresh.

I love using this straight after exfoliating, maybe once or twice a week.  I apply a nice lather all over my face and a little down my neck. Formulated without parabens, sulphates or phthalates, I don’t find this to be irritating on my sensitive dry skin.  Instead, soon after applying my skin feels soothed and softened. I leave this on for about 10-20 minutes and gently rinse off with cool or lukewarm water. My skin is left feeling soft, hydrated and appears brighter.

It really is a beautiful mask and I do recommend this if you have dehydrated skin. It is formulated for all skin types – yes oily skin types get dehydrated skin too (that can often exacerbate oiliness)!

You can purchase this 75ml full size product from any Clarins retailer for $68 NZD.  Sometimes it’s fun to wait until Life Pharmacy or Farmers are running a Gift with Purchase offer, because that way you get an added treat.

| Review | Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

This is a powerhouse of a mask.  It claims to be hydrating, brightening, pigmentation fading, pore minimising, decongesting, exfoliating and anti-blemishing. WOW.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

This mask is a light pink colour in the cute glass jar, but applies clear to the skin.  It has a gel-water-like consistency that sinks into skin and gets to work. This does make it perfect to apply as an overnight mask, as Glow Recipe like to say – its “pillow proof.” I have to agree it is very soft, lightweight and melts into skin. So, I don’t feel like I have a mask on but rather that I have applied a lovely hydrating gel-like moisturiser.

Formulated with AHA’s that work to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells and leave skin soft, more even and pores cleared.  AHA’s are also good for targeting fine lines and softening away textured skin. Hyaluronic acid is the powerful hydration restoring ingredient that holds moisture in your skin and makes your skin look and feel plumper and glowy.   And of course – the watermelon! Watermelon extract acts as another hydrator and has soothing properties too.  It has a fun sweet watermelon fragrance that fades soon after applying.

This mask is relatively new to me, only having had it for a couple months.  I have never really enjoyed overnight masks for various reasons, but I am enjoying this one.  You can also use this as a regular mask. I leave this on for about 20-30 minutes and my skin does look visibly brighter and feels smoother and less tight.  I then apply a rich moisturiser before bed, and enjoy a happy hydrated fresh face the next day.

I can’t really comment on whether or not its pore minimising or pigmentation correcting. Perhaps I need to use it more regularly to test out those results? Let me know in the comments if you have tried this mask? I might start using this more regularly at night time to make the most of the overnight exfoliation, as I have noticed my 30-something skin starting to look a little more textured and liney…

Glow Recipe is stocked at everyone’s favourite store – MECCA. It comes in 2 sizes, a 30ml pot costs $39 NZD and the 80ml costs $79 NZD.  It’s quite a lovely gift for someone actually, as it is more of a splurge, comes in this gorgeous little glass jar and is formulated for all skin types.  Plus – it’s VEGAN and free of irritating nasties (Parabens, Mineral Oil, Sulphates, Silicones, Phthalates, Drying Alcohols, Synthetic Dyes).
